Our Fourth of July Festivities started on the 3rd, with our annual breakfast with friends. We met at Cracker Barrel, but have already decided that next year we will have a potluck at somebody's house. Eating out with a party of 18 is getting a little crazy!
Brooke loves her Daddy, and I just can't get over how grown-up she is looking. Maybe it was just the hair??
Danielle always does a great job taking pictures to document the occasion, but unfortunately, Brooke wouldn't cooperate. At least she sat still, right?
All the kiddos, minus Graham, who was off with his Daddy. Such a cute bunch of patriotic children :)
And I can't say enough about these friends. It really has been great living by them again.
After breakfast, we headed up to Lake Grapevine for a family afternoon on the boat. It was a hot day, but we had a lot of fun and Brooke and Kinley rode the new tube with their daddies.
After a few hours of boating, I attempted to take Brooke over to Jerry and Bev's house for a nap while they put the boat back at Silver Lakes Marina. (Long story, but due to all the flooding and elevated water levels, boating has been somewhat of a challenge this season!) Well, Brooke fell asleep within 3 minutes of being in the car, woke up when we got to the house, and wouldn't go back down for a nap. So, we played for a bit until everyone else came back to the house, then we grabbed some dinner at Chipotle, and headed back to the lake for the Friday night fireworks. We had to hike through a wooded area, then make quite a journey over to the marina, but we made it, and it was such a fun night. Brooke loved the fireworks, but boy was she wiped out by the end of that day!!We stayed the night in Flower Mound, then woke up bright and early to head to the parade in Coppell. Our poor girl was still sound asleep when we had to get her ready to go!
This is the first year that we have gone to a parade, and it was fun to experience it with a toddler. The parade wasn't anything to write home about, but they did have one marching band (the highlight), and they passed out some candy (the other highlight).
(Waiting for the parade to start!)
I think it's adorable how much Brooke loves her notebooks and pencils. But it definitely kept her entertained while we waited!
I feel so grateful for the country in which we live and the freedoms that I am guilty of taking for granted!
