life in may

We had an early Mother's Day brunch with Grandma since we would be out of town on the actual holiday.  We served waffles, berries, fresh whipped cream, and bacon :)  Party planner Brooke set the table and Colby set out the "Queen Bee" crown he made for me at Preschool. He worried because Grandma wasn't gonna have one, so him and Brooke recreated one for her to wear as well.
Colby was especially excited for her to open the gifts he picked out.  We had gone shopping together and after gently shutting down all of his suggestions (like huge butterfly necklaces), I finally let go and let him find whatever he thought was special.  His final selection was a flowered compact mirror and a small pair of gold butterfly earrings.
After we finished breakfast, we headed to the lake together. I don't think I took a single picture on our ride, but I did snap this picture of Huckleberry Finn.  It was definitely not hot, but he insisted on taking off his shirt while we wiped down the boat.  But it was a beautiful day outside :)
And since the pool officially opened, my crazy kids wanted to go swimming despite the fact that it was only like 68 degrees and cloudy.
Colby jumped in and panicked because it was so cold, saying something like, "I thought I was drowning."  But they still swam around for a solid 40 minutes.  They got out for a snack, but then weren't willing to get back in and get all their diving toys. I understood that it was cold, but I was super irritated that they'd so easily leave their toys like that.  In the end, they were saved by some friends who showed up and dove in to retrieve them all.  I was still super irritated, but it was fun while it lasted.
Since I didn't get a single picture with my littles at our brunch, I made sure I got one the next day before church.  I'm so grateful to be their Mama!
Monday vibes...
First warm pool day, but still too cold for me to get in.  The kids loved seeing friends from last summer, and Colby kept spraying the water up like peacock feathers.  (And he's totally rocking the farmer's tan, haha.)
One day after school, Colby and I went to Oliver Nature Park to stretch our legs.  I enjoyed chatting as we walked, and we even ended up with the best wildflower collection.
After two bad hair appointments at Olive, I finally went back to my hair stylist in her new location :)  Mom wanted to see how it turned out, hence the picture...
Grandma came to watch Colby for my long hair appointment on Wednesday and he's been loving the dinosaurs she brought him..
A glimpse into Colby's preschool day...
After school pool dates have been the BEST! Third pool date this week, and it's making us all excited for summer!
Celebrated Colby's last day of school with some Bahama Buck's...
Colby asked me to attach the pegs on his bike, but we could only get one to stay.  I climbed on his bike anyway and told him to hop on.  We were cracking up as we coasted down the driveway and into the street, haha. I'm sure we were quite the sight, especially with the goggles.
Just some after-school Pokemon deals...
Summer is feeling so close!!
My kids are so lucky to have neighborhood besties (the Hawkins).  I was out there watching them play and Carter kept doing flips on the trampoline. Brooke said, "Carter, are you trying to impress me."  He said "No", then she followed up with, "Well, it seems like you were trying to impress me." Haha.  He then said,"Were you wanting me to impress you?"  She of course said no, but the whole thing was hilarious. He's 13 and I can tell that Brooke has a little crush on him, so it was super funny to watch.
Carter is super sweet to Colby and extremely patient with all the things Colby wants to play with him.  He tried to teach him to do back flips, which was a little terrifying.
Cookie time with my buddy, who was sure he could mix the dry ingredients better with his hands.  Don't worry, though, his hands were freshly washed :)
Friday Night pizza/movie night at the Hawkins house with their new inflatable movie screen.  SO fun to be outside on a perfect night.
I was feeling grumpy about going to the lake because the kids kept fighting, but it was just what we needed to reset our day.  I guess that's the power of some fresh air, upbeat music, and giggles.
We had a beautiful three hours at the lake and then the rain (which has been crazy this month) dumped for hours!  But since the kids were already in their swim suits, they played on the trampoline and ate dinner outside.
Brooke and I both gave talks at church and as we drove to the building, I looked back to see my sweet girl reading over her talk. It was a cute process preparing her message together, then she picked out her outfit and gloves for the occasion.  She's growing up so quickly!
My one-on-one days are coming to an end with this boy, so I tried to stop my chores and play a bunch of games with him yesterday. Then he offered to help with chores because he's trying to earn money for more legos.
It's amazing what he's motivated to do for a quarter! And he's meticulous! He cleaned that sink for 20 minutes, then wanted an old toothbrush and a stool to detail the toilet.
When the play date turns into a car wash :)  And with all the rain we've had this week, it desperately needed it.
Brooke finished up school a few days later, and it was officially summer!!  The rain finally stopped and we enjoyed a beautiful afternoon at the Dallas Arboretum.
We spent hours in the Exploration center and basically had the place to ourselves.  Highlights included the digital microscopes, discovery lab, and Omniglobe presentation about the solar system.
We planned on meeting friends at the beach area at the lake, but it's flooded due to the insane rain we've been getting, so we met at Play Grand instead. I'm just grateful that the forecasted rain held off for a few hours so we could hang out with friends!
I don't do pets, but I DO take them to the cutest pet store to play with them. That counts for something, right??  Colby left wanting a ball python (which he held) and Brooke wants a black bunny (which she snuggled and fell in love them). Maybe this was a bad idea, haha.
Tacos, sunshine (peaking from behind the clouds) and smiles...
This might be one of my favorite pictures, I sure love my crew...
Memorial Day weekend we spent some time with family at the lake...
It started out as a rainy day (we've broken all the rain records this month!), but luckily Kevin thought ahead and brought the bag of wet suits.  It's quite the process helping them get suited up, but the genuine smiles make it totally worth it!
Loved this surprise picture I found on my camera roll from Auntie Mel Mel.  I was completely unsuccessful at getting her to sleep, but I loved the snuggles.
When the weather took a turn for the worse, we went back to our house and hung out for a few more hours. Normally Colby joins in on whatever the girls are playing, but I think he loved this one-on-one time dressing up with Aubrey :)
