We planned a trip to see the Griffiths family in Minnesota and we were all SO excited for the trip! We justified taking Brooke out of school because Kevin had the week off and we hadn't seen Kimberly's family in such a long time. We had also never met baby Grace, which was just a shame!
The kids loved the flight, but really, what's not to love about watching shows and eating the variety of snacks I packed in their Bentgo containers.
Once we landed in Minnesota, we got our rental car and headed to a park to meet up with everyone.
Brooke quickly fell in love with Grace and they were swinging together in no time.
Colby also loved the swing...I loved watching the cousins interact and see the little personalities of Claire and Grace.
Then we headed to the Pleasant Grove Pizza Farm. I wasn't sure what to except, but the whole vibe was so cool. The pizza farm was literally in the middle of nowhere, like nothing but corn fields in all directions and I really started thinking we were lost because we saw no signs of life for an hour. But the drive was definitely worth it for this hidden gem. We went into the barn to order our pizzas, threw a few blankets out on the lawn, listened to the live music, and let the kids play on the large wooden spools, sit on the vintage tractor, and interact with the goats. As we were hanging out near this vintage tractor, an older gentleman (96 to be exact!) came and asked if we would take a picture of him next to it. He then explained that he used to drive a tractor like this with a team of horses when he was a 10 year old boy. Kevin asked if he wanted to sit on the tractor, which turned out to be much trickier than any of us thought, haha. He couldn't really lift his legs, so Kevin and Josh suggested that he turn backwards and they would lift him onto the seat. That went okay, but then he needed help maneuvering his legs into position. All seemed good, but as the guys moved away for the picture, the tractor started tipping backwards! We all gasped and Josh quickly grabbed the front of the tractor and kept it balanced.
That made for a pretty funny picture as well :)
He really was the sweetest guy and it was tender to see how happy he was to be sitting there again.
He then took the time to explain the whole process to the kids.
More playing with the spools and talking to the goats...
All you need for an amazing night: family, fresh air, delicious pizza (prosciutto, fresh basil, local honey, goat cheese, blueberry dessert pizza), live music, and some jenga! The trip was off to a great start!!
