In early December, Grandma texted us to find out if we'd like to get tickets to hear the Fort Worth Symphony at White's Chapel in Southlake. We haven't done anything like this in years, and since the date was perfect (the evening of the last day of school before winter break), we said yes!
We arrived first, so we saved seats in the upper balcony.
Grandma arrived a few minutes later with Melanie, Kinley, and Aubrey, so it was nice to all sit together.
The symphony lasted about an hour, and ended with a sing-a-long of some well known carols. As we went downstairs, we heard people talking about a "train room" so we wandered around the church. Before we found the trains, we found this stunning tree, which made the perfect backdrop for a group picture. (Colby stands out in his bright blue shirt, but since he really wanted to wear shorts and a t-shirt, I was picking my battles and was just grateful that he agreed to a collared shirt and tan pants.)Then we found the trains...
The kids loved all the details, but they were especially excited to show me this tiny bear nativity. (And Colby wanted to show me the tiny McDonalds.)
Towards the end, the crowd was clearing out and the train conductor asked Colby if he wanted to make the train blow its whistle. He was, of course, excited to do it. I could tell that Brooke wanted to do it as well, so I encouraged her to go closer so that he would offer the same thing to her. Our plan worked :)
It was super freezing outside, but we made a quick pit stop for a picture in the carriage.
We enjoyed our evening together and it was a great way to kick off our Winter Break!
