arboretum date

A few days before Christmas, Auntie Mel Mel and her girls met us at the Dallas Arboretum to check out the 12 Day of Christmas. These Victorian style gazebos are stunning!  I took the kids last year, but the Peacocks had never been so it was fun to show them around.  I loved listening to the kids pick out which "maid-a-milking" or "lady dancing" they wanted to be.  Oh, and they loved the bagpipers piping!!
Colby requested a special picture, just the two of us, and I love him for it!!
The swans are always my favorite...
This picture doesn't really do the tree justice, but it was wrapped in the most adorable tiny white lights.  I would REALLY like to come see the arboretum at night, but even with my annual pass, it would cost our family nearly $50 to attend because it's a "special event" after the arboretum closes for it's normal daytime hours.
Gotta love the massive Christmas tree..
This arch of trees is always a favorite, but it's much prettier in the Spring :)
Next, we headed to the Christmas Village.  Everything about this place was adorable.  Each shop was themed and the kids were supposed to find the hidden animal on the wallpapered walls. They were also given a little treat or prize from almost every shop. A piece of candy from the candy shop, a bandaid from the doctor, a piece of bacon from the butcher, a tiny bite of cake from the baker, a packet of seeds from the florist, etc. Emery was so fun to watch because she didn't want to set down any of her "treasures", but she was having a hard time holding them all!
These cousins had a blast exploring the whole village together...
These kids are just the cutest!! It's sweet to see how much they adore each other and how much fun they always have.
The employee in the doctor's office was totally into his character and the kids kept messing with him...sneaking back into the office and he would pretend like he was mad to see them again.  These kids are too much sometimes.
They wrote notes to Santa at the Post Office and mailed them to the North Pole.
There were just SO many cute picture spots...
Auntie Mel Mel stood in line to see Santa while the kids ran around some more.  When she was getting close, we went over to join her. Emery knew what was coming and became pretty clingy to her mama.  She was absolutely NOT happy about being near the guy in red, haha!
One last picture before we headed out of the Christmas Village.
We stopped for a restroom break, and since it was right next to the Degoyler house, we went in to see the nativities from all over the world.  The whole house was immaculately decorated...
The girls loved the angel tree...
Then it was time to head to the Children's Gardens.
They were eager to find all the animals with Santa hats because they were told that a prize awaited them in the Exploration Center.
Building with Emery...
Checking out the sand pendulum...
Climbing in the treehouse...
Playing with the water squirters...
Learning about water-powered energy...
Checking out the microscopes in the Exploration Center...
Side Note: The prize for the animal statues was a pack of posters about women scientists.  The kids were totally underwhelmed, especially since last year the prize was chocolate rocks, haha.
We didn't spend long in the playground area since these four are getting so big, but Emery had a great time on the tiny slide :)
We loved our day with Auntie Mel Mel and her girls!  And I made sure to get a picture of us moms since we're trying to do a better job at that :) I still can't believe we spent over 6 hours there, but it really was the perfect day.
One more picture with Colby Boy while the girls were all using the restroom.
