I can't believe that this little boy is 6!! To his total delight, we let him open his gifts the night BEFORE his birthday. But first, I made him pose for a few pictures :)
Since Grandma was still at our house helping out, she was able to join in on the celebration. He was super excited about the Pokemon binder "Brooke" gave him. I had ordered it from Amazon, but when I told Brooke about it, she wanted to gift it to him since she knew he would totally flip.
He was equally excited about the Harry Potter Perler beads from Nay Nay and Papa. I think Brooke was pretty jealous, and quickly offered to help him make some of the characters.
He was completely shocked to get rollerblades! Hearing him say, "Best birthday EVER!" was the sweetest. Then watching him attempt to skate was nothing short of hysterical. It was a like a fawn first trying to stand, haha. But this kid doesn't give up and he kept at it until he could skate little spurts on his own. I think having the hockey stick also helped him maintain his balance. Good thinking, Daddy!
We ended the night with ice cream sundaes. I was feeling some mom guilt about not making him a cake, but we don't actually love cake that much at our house, so I told myself it was fine to do ice cream sundaes. I also cut up a bunch of tiny candy bars from our Halloween stash, so it was a sugar-loaded treat. Right after dessert we needed to get ready for bed, but he had the hardest time falling asleep! Probably had something to do with all that sugar, haha. He told me that he "couldn't stop thinking about his new Pokemon binder and organizing his cards," but he eventually gave in and I just soaked in that moment. The sound of his breathing, his little body snuggled next to mine, and the thought that he's been our little guy for the past SIX years. Can't quite believe it, but we're definitely the luckiest!!
Since Colby had to go to school on his birthday, we met him for a special lunch date. So grateful that Grandma was there to drive us around so that we could surprise this kid at school. He recently decided that he loves McDonald's Happy Meals (he's only had them 2 or 3 times), and since I never want to go there, it seemed like the perfect way to make him feel special.
Love this little guy so much!! Lunch dates are quickly becoming one of my favorite things.
We also ate with Brookie, who had lunch right before Colby. Since she isn't a big McDonald's fan, we picked up Subway as well. And I brought her a little treat from her Halloween bag, which she proudly wore as a rainbow tongue, haha.
Sweet snuggles with my unicorn girl!!

That afternoon, Mandy texted me to see if Logan could drop by and wish Colby a Happy Birthday. Colby loves Logan so much, and was delighted to see him. Logan gave him the coolest lego set, and Colby went right in for a bear hug, haha. And of course, showed off his rollerblading skills :)
That evening, Uncle Jeffrey and his family called to sing to the birthday boy. He definitely felt loved and special.
And last but not least, a little walk down memory lane...We joke that Colby came out looking like a smurf because he was very blue and bruised, but thankfully he was totally fine! Kevin was so sweet with him and looked so proud holding his son...
