Brooke decided to play for the Bears again, but this time with Kevin as an assistant coach. Coach Maria's husband used to help with the coaching, but due to health issues, he was unable to assist.
I love that they get this extra time to bond, even though it did stress Kevin out a little bit to rush there from work two days a week.
Brooke was looking so cute on her first soccer Saturday and had an AMAZING game. She scored a goal in the first half and had an amazing save as goalie in the second half. The Bears were on fire and won 7-2, which was such a fun way to start the season.
Brooke wasn't thrilled about being goalie, but they only have one girl on the team that actually wants to do it, so they need to figure that one out. I was proud of Brooke for stepping up when her team needed her.
Kevin's purple polo arrived JUST in time...
Papa came to support Brookie at her first game of the season.
The purple duo...
Friday night soccer practice! The evenings are getting better, but it's still too hot in Texas.
Saturday's game took us to Cleburne and my girl scored two goals and nearly scored a third after a breakaway. She was SO excited, which was fun to watch. She also played goalie the first half and had several great blocks. So far, the season is off to a great start.
Brooke wasn't playing quite as aggressively at the beginning of her next game, but she definitely stepped it up towards the end and even scored a goal. She's improved so much in her ability to take the ball down the field and although her shot hit the goal post, the goalie accidentally knocked it in after it hit the back of her hand.
Another dad is also helping to coach and although James means well, he is a big personality and doesn't always get along with Coach Maria. His wife is actually someone I've had encounters with at Lillard and she has a loud personality as well, so their family is adding an interesting dynamic to the team.
Brooke was rocking her new purple shades (from Marlie's Friday night birthday party) and the new decals on her jersey. (Jame's wife actually added them to the jerseys for the girls, so for that, we were thankful.)
It was a "divide and conquer" kind of day so I missed Brooke's game, but I heard about how hot it was. The Bears lost, but they hustled, so there's that. And I love seeing these two in their matching purple!
The Bears had a tough loss against one of the Cleburne teams, but the girls fought hard. Brooke was thrown in goalie for the second half and although several got past her, she was able to stop a few.
We went to the Daulton picnic straight from the game and Kristin (who is an athletic trainer) took a look at the ankle that's been bothering Brooke. Nothing seemed amiss, so we opted for the ibuprofen and compression sleeve route to see if that improved her symptoms.
Soccer Saturday was another good one! A total turnaround from the game last weekend. And my girl scored two goals!! The second one was probably her best goal all season.
Love seeing the team high-fives all around...
Such a fun win for the Bears! They needed this! Only two weeks left, which is good since she also started volleyball and our schedule is getting more complicated!
The Bears had another great game the next Saturday. I think they won 11-1, but it was fun to see the girls improve their passing game. Brooke played goalie for the second half and although there wasn't much activity on defense, she did stop a few goal attempts.
I missed Brooke's last soccer game because we had to divide and conquer again and since Kevin coaches, he needed to go with Brooke. But I'm so grateful that she had another great season with the Bears.
