Brooke wanted to play YMCA volleyball again, so we signed her up and hoped she would get a good team! In the weeks leading up to the season starting, I received multiple emails stating that "my daughter's team didn't have a coach" and that if nobody volunteered, the team would be dissolved. I was in no way qualified to coach, but I also didn't want her to miss out on playing, so I eventually called the YMCA and left a message that as a last resort, I could do it. Thankfully, two other moms (who were friends) offered to do it just before I called and I'm glad they did because one of them actually played volleyball.
We missed the first game (due to soccer), but showed up for the second one! Brooke has really enjoyed practicing with her team, so we were excited to watch them compete. Go, Team Canada! Her coach even made up a cute cheer for the girls to do.

How is this teenage-looking girl mine?? She has grown almost two inches since her birthday in June and I can't even believe it. She played SO well at her volleyball game and was getting her overhand serves in, which is huge for her. They have a 5 point limit per server, so apparently Kevin challenged Brooke to switch to overhand after her 4th point and she got it over! That gave her the confidence to try again the next time she served and I think she surprised herself with her consistency with 3 more overhand serves!
I didn't buy the professional pictures, but I snapped a quick one of Brooke as we were leaving. The season is literally flying by!
We had the best cheering section a few weeks later. It was extra special to have Doug and Tracy in town and I know it meant a lot to Brooke that they would come and watch her play. She missed one of her overhand serves, but is doing so well.
Her team usually practiced at a church in Arlington, but when her coach decided to add a second practice during the week, we met at a random sand court in Arlington. Brooke was dressed for summer but assured me that she wasn't cold during practice, haha. The season is coming to a close and although I won't miss the 30 minute drive to practices and games, I will miss watching her play.
They had a tournament at UTA a few weeks later and it was our first experience with tournament play. The girls were struggling with their serves (Brooke included), but she ended up having the winning serve of their second set to send them into a third. Sadly, they lost, but seeing her confidence to go for the overhand serve under pressure and the team's excitement were all I could've hoped for.
Their last game of the season was a WIN, but since this was their consolation game, they didn't place well in the overall bracket. But, she loved her season, so we were super happy.
I'm thankful for coaches who volunteer their time and attention and for her sweet teammates and their families. It makes all the difference!
