Colby has been wanting to play baseball forever, but he was NOT interested in T-ball because "that's for babies." We tried to explain that the younger kids always play T-ball, but he wasn't interested until he could play "real baseball." So, here we are!!
Our friend, Doug Taggart, is coaching with Mansfield Youth Baseball Association and asked if Colby wanted to be on (his son) Brooks' team. Brooks is 8, but Doug said that Colby was just as coordinated as those kids, and since Colby is tall, he would fit right in :) The league allows you to "play up", so it was going to be perfect! Then we found out that Brooks will actually be in 9U based on their age cutoffs, and I think having Colby play up that many age brackets was a bit much. Especially since he has never played before. So, we just signed him up for 6U and hoped for the best.
His first practice was on a Friday night and Colby was pumped!
He is on the Texas Outlaws and his coach is a woman named Georgia. Colby was bummed to get another girl coach, but there are several dads out there helping, and Kevin even jumped in and pitched to the kids for a bit, so it's gonna be great :)I loved watching him out there! He really has a natural coordination and is constantly paying attention to the details.
And he sure looks cute doing it :)
I bought him second-hand cleats from someone on Next Door (whose last name is also Meador), as well as cleats and a helmet for when he's bigger. We headed to Academy Sports for everything else he needed: new batting gloves, a proper fitting helmet, and a bat.
We loaded all his gear into a duffle bag, but the bat was clearly hanging out one side, haha. So, after his first practice, we headed to Target and bought him an official baseball bag for his next practice, which happened to be the next morning.
It was a super hot outside, but he loved every minute of that practice!
