triathlon

I mentioned this in a previous post, but Kevin signed up for a sprint triathlon back in August and recruited a few guys (Ryan Hawkins and Grant Hibbert) from the ward to join him :) We woke up early on Saturday morning to head to Plano to show our support.
.
The kids loved having friends to keep them company while we waited for the race to start.
The guys checked in, took their bikes to the transition area, and listened for further instruction about how the event would flow. I loved seeing the kids hug on Kevin and wish him luck.
Kevin and Ryan
The first event was the swim, but since the pool was inside the building, we were only allowed to wait with them outside.  After the guys were inside, the line cleared out, and we saw spectators coming in and out of the building.  So, we figured it was worth a shot to see if we could spot them inside.
We saw Kevin just as he was climbing out of the pool, and spotted Ryan finishing his laps.  Then we were in prime position to give high-fives as they ran to the bike transition area.
We waited a while longer, but this time with the Hibbert boys as well.  It's a good thing the girls brought bags full of toys to keep everyone entertained.
Eventually, we spotted each dad as they zoomed past us on their bikes.  They needed to make three laps on the course, so we stayed in position until they were all finished with the bike portion.
Then it was over to the finish line to see them complete their run.  We were standing next to a woman with THE cutest dog, so of course all the kids asked to hold it.
As soon as Brooke saw Kevin in the distance, she jumped up and was ready to give her daddy a high five. We were all cheering and shouting, so I'm sure he was a bit embarrassed, haha.
But we were all really proud of the guys and it was admirable to see them complete this physical challenge.
This was their first time doing the Blacklands Sprint Triathlon, but I have a feeling it won't be their last!!
Way to go, Kev!!
