life in august

I can't believe that this was our first and last beach day of the summer!! The park was closed for all of June and part of July due to flooding, so we were out of the habit, but it was a fun time with friends.

Colby with Bryson, Braxton, and Brody Nesbitt
Brooke with Zalaya and Zenley Nesbitt (Yes, the boys get B names and the girls get Z names.  Their older sisters are Zalynn and Zara.)
We went to Hawaiian Falls last week and they have a new sign!  Obviously it's a fine sign, but my kids were sad that Maui Max was gone!  He's been there since 2015 when we started going!
We ran into Zalaya while we were there, so you know I had to get a picture. These girls have known each other forever, but they haven't been as close the last few years because they haven't had any classes together and Brooke isn't playing softball anymore.
Saturday morning boat session and I found some lovely pics of me driving the boat with a few screenshots of me falling, haha.  Thanks a bunch, Colby.
We went to a Rangers game and sat in the all-you-can-eat section with our HOA, so we left with very full bellies.  I don't usually let my kids drink soda, so they took full advantage of the opportunity to drink it, which meant frequent trips to the bathroom as well.

We arrived early to watch batting practice and Brooke got one of the balls that went over the heads of the kids up front.  Then Colby was about to catch the ball being thrown to him, but the guy next to him messed it up.
Colby was super disappointed and kept hoping he would catch a ball during the game or when he went near the dugout, but that never panned out for him.  But it was still a really fun night as a family.
Sunday afternoon car crafting!  It was a huge mess, but kept them entertained for hours!
We spent another day at Ninja Kidz during the heat of the summer.  Brooke spent the majority of her time on the obstacle course and aerial silks while Colby spent his time playing dodgeball with teenagers.
I can't ever remember what Brooke and I were doing, but probably crafting something...
When pool time with friends ends in a triple stack :) The Hawkins' cousin Thomas was on the bottom and Gordon Goettman was on top.
We went to Open Gym at Nova gymnastics with friends and I always sneak out towards the end to take a few pictures. It's hard to believe that summer is nearing the end and we are desperately trying to fit in all the fun stuff.
Adventures in Invisalign are officially over!!  (For now, at least.)
Brooke was NOT pleased that she had to get shots at her 11 year old check-up!  But she is growing like a weed and still at the top of the growth chart.
Our outing to Hurricane Harbor was cut short due to lighting in the vicinity, but it was super fun while it lasted!  This waterpark is totally different that Hawaiian Falls and we're not used to waiting in long lines to ride a single ride...but they also have a much bigger variety of rides and bigger drops, so the thrill factor is definitely there.
Brooke is not super interested in mowing the lawn, but I want her to know how to do it, so today was a teaching day.
Colby had some epic boat hair on Saturday, so it had to be documented.
Grandma and Papa came along for the Friday night ride as well...
The Texas sunsets never get old, especially out on the water.
Colby has been a surfing machine this summer.  It's so fun to see your kids get better at something each and every time you go.
Apparently we have been doing lots of fun things because Brooke's arms are stacked with all her wristbands. Her and Lily had a competition of who could wear one of their wristbands the longest, haha.
Colby has been begging to practice pitching and Kevin made that happen one afternoon.  I only laughed a little when he came out wearing his In-N-Out socks and the vintage Rangers shirt his parents had in their attic with all his old baseball cards.  But the lesson was a success because Colby was rocking it!
Brooke bought a resin kit at the thrift store and has been making all sorts of necklaces...
She also gave me a pretty epic set of play-doh nails, haha.
Last Ninja Kidz outing of the summer!  Brooke ended the day with crazy burns on her legs from the aerial silks and Colby played some intense dodgeball games, but they both enjoyed their 2.5 hour playtime.
Our last day of summer found us at Main Event.  It wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but that's what the kids asked for. Thankfully, it wasn't busy, so we enjoyed ourselves for an hour!  I am not really ready to get back into school and sports, but here goes nothing!!
A little photo booth fun...
The Peacocks are doing the boat club this year and invited us for a last minute outing.  The morning was gorgeous and the kids had the best time!!  I love seeing these cousins together.
They rented the boat with the slide and the kids had SO much fun jumping off the upper deck!  I even joined them a few times.
Sunday pics with my loves...
Brooke was back into baking and I think made a chocolate chip cookie pie from the Food Nanny cookbook.
Our washer decided to break down, which meant I made weekly trips to the laundromat while we waited for the new part to arrive. Thankfully Kevin was able to install it, which saved us a ton of money!  And it was actually kinda nice to get 8 loads of laundry done at one time. It wasn't very cost effective, but the time savings was pretty amazing.
Some after-school Pokemon trading...
Car shenanigans while we waited for Brooke...
And some spy time...
Doug and Tracy were back in Texas for a check-up, which meant a friend dinner in Fort Worth.  It was SO good to see them again.  We also met up at Tropical Smoothie Cafe one afternoon and spent some time at the pool together.  Doug and Tracy also take an interest in our kids and make them feel so important and seen.
We had another Lake Grapevine outing with the Peacocks when Aunt Shelly was in town visiting Grandma and Papa.
Emery is my little buddy and I absolutely love that she likes to hang out with me.
Emery also gave Brooke the royal treatment :)
These two attended the Daddy/Daughter Luau.  I realized that it was Brooke's last activity since she'll be moving up to the Young Women's program in January, and that made me a little emotional.  Time is so crazy!!
A friend of mine sent me an action shot from the dance...
While Brooke and Kevin were away, Colby and I had a Mother/Son date.  He ordered our food at Shake Shack (delicious) and we spent an hour together at Main Event.  We ended the night snuggled up watching a movie.  I love the chance we have to do one-on-one dates with our kids.  Truly, some of the most special memories!
Brooke brought home a cello a few weeks after school started and we were all pretty excited about it!  I can't wait to hear her progress over the next year.  She is so lucky to get a school cello as well as a home cello, and we don't have to pay for either.
She gave Colby and I mini lessons after she played a few things for us.
Brooke had a school assignment to make a food representing our family's heritage, so we opted for some aebleskivers, which I don't think I had ever made for the kids before, haha.  But they are a traditional German pancake, so we went with it.
Sickness hit our house near the end of the month, which meant lots of rest and even more fluids. Thankfully, the kids only missed one day of school and I only missed one day of work.
After a week of not working out, it felt good to go for a Saturday morning walk with my girl while the boys were at baseball practice.
It was a busy month trying to fit in all the last-minute fun and prepare for school, but we did it!
