Brooke was feeling better the next morning, so we were more than excited to head to the beach!! She settled herself right into that warm California sand.
We had to get a few pictures before we were covered in sunscreen and sand, haha. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, which felt like such a blessing after several days of sickness. Dad brought along his binoculars to watch for dolphins and birds.
In all my years of going to the beach, this is the first time I've found intact clams. Let alone FIVE!! Colby wanted to keep them on his board, but I was shocked and sort of freaked out when they started coming out of their shells! I was taking a video of them coming out of their shells and commented that they were so weird, but Colby quickly chimed in, "and amazingly cool!"
Colby also got his fill of playing in the sand. It was so relaxing to just sit there on the beach with the warm sun on our skin. My mom used to take us to the beach every Friday during the summer, so it was fun going back to our same spot at Rio Del Mar. We also went on Saturdays with other families, and I had run reminiscing about playing sand volleyball, frisbee, and digging huge holes with Dad.
We took several long walks on the hunt for full sand dollars. Although we found quite a few pieces and a few ALMOST full ones, we weren't successful in finding any that were completely intact.
But we sure had fun trying :)
We also found a few "sea carrots" as we called them. They were actually just pieces of seaweed, but it was uncanny how much they looked like mini carrots.
We also stopped when we saw a family watching this crab...
I have never seen a crab at the beach either, so this was a day of firsts!
Colby really wanted to boogie board and I was REALLY wishing Kevin was there to help him, haha. The water was freezing, but I did a pretty good job helping him catch a few before he tumbled in a wave. Then he was more hesitant to go out very far, but he still had a huge smile on his face, so I'd say it was a good experience. Nay Nay took a quick beach nap...
I tried to take a selfie with Dad before we left the beach, and this is what he gave me...
After about 10 stink faces, he finally cooperated :)Colby convinced Nay Nay to cover him in sand...
Last beach pic! Papa kept telling Brooke she looked like a snickerdoodle. She was literally covered in sand the whole time we were there.
