spring soccer

We were all SO happy for Soccer Saturday to start again!  We requested that Colby be on a team with his friend Braxton, then found out that his friend Edmund requested him, so he had two friends on the team.  The coaches were the mom and dad of one of the other boys on the team and they seemed really great.
Brooke entertained Edmund's littlest brother, Caleb, during the first practice :)
Colby volunteered to be the goalie for the second half of the first game and quickly realized that it was BORING!  His team was doing an awesome job on defense, so the ball only came near him like twice.  I don't think he'll be volunteering again any time soon, haha.
Then it was Brooke's turn!  She's playing for a new coach this year, but he seemed great and she has several friends on the team. We requested that Brooke be on the same team as her friend Zalaya (Braxton's sister), her friends Evie and Logan Funderburk requested her, and Caleb Villescas in our ward requested Logan, so we had that team stacked with friends.
Another week, another afternoon spent at the fields :) Brooke enjoyed keeping score in her notebook during Colby's game.  The Purple Parrots won, 3-0.
Love my #5...
Since we were at the fields super early for Brooke's practice/game, I had time to take a pic of my favorite Night Fury...
She moved up a division (11U) and is playing with older kids, but she stayed right there with the ball the whole game.  Brooke isn't very aggressive, but she hustles and is always where she needs to be. And since she's so tall, she fit right in.
The next week started out chilly, but the sun was blazing, so the 45 degrees felt much warmer than in typically does!
Colby did a lot of the sideline throws this game, and he was all about the "fake out."
I love that they have a devotional between the practice and game.  They lost their game, but the kids played hard!
Another great week of soccer!  It was also a major confidence boost for the Night Furies with their 6-0 victory.
Cheering on the sidelines with this cutie and a whole bowl of delicious strawberries.
Soccer is definitely more fun with friends!  I didn't realize there was such a sun flare, but I still love the picture of Logan, Brooke, Evie, and Caleb.
Poor Colby collided with some kid and kept grabbing his head during the game. But he said he was okay, so hopefully he really was. They also won their game, so we were high on soccer victories.
Grandma was still recovering from her surgery and post-surgery complications, but Papa came to cheer the kids on the next week.  He hated that he had to miss a few games, but the kids definitely understood that he needed to take care of Grandma.
Brooke wanted to take a group selfie.  I was holding my friend Kiley's sweet baby girl so she could take her daughter to the bathroom.
Brooke was keeping herself entertained because I had several selfies on my phone that morning :)
Another great game for the Purple Parrots...
We knew Papa was coming, but having Auntie Mel Mel and her girls show up was a fun surprise.
Emery is a lucky little girl to have big sisters and cousins to dote on her.
They all stayed for Brooke's game as well.  I sure love watching this girl play soccer...
Papa was getting sunburned, so he borrowed Emery's hat and gave us all a good laugh,
Four solid hours of soccer fun!  Colby doesn't quite understand why we make him watch his sister's game when he'd rather be off playing, but one day I think he'll appreciate the importance of supporting your siblings.
Our last week of soccer!  I rocked my sweatshirt for the morning game, but was melting by the afternoon.  Springtime weather is almost a thing of the past, haha.
Practicing for their last game...
After the game, the coaches passes out awards and medals.  Colby won the "true grit" award for the ability to never give up and push through no matter what."
Such great coaches!
Braxton and Colby...
The coach made the kids "homemade chocolate chip cookies," per Colby's request. He isn't a big fan of store-bought cookies, haha.
Brooke also had a wonderful coach and loved her season.  It was definitely a season full of learning and growing, but it was all positive and fun.
Coach Roland passed out the medals after the game...
One last picture of this proud Papa...
Overall, it was a great season for both kids!  I can't quite believe that this is our 6th year doing soccer with Ridge Sports.
